At this stage of map creation, I try to add countries in a way that makes sense geographically and bundle them together so that updates are fairly frequent, but not too small. I am going to aim for an update every 2 months, but I will not hold myself accountable for delays. It is a solo passion project, so how fast it goes is going to depend on how much time I have.
A thorn in my side that any map maker can relate to is the fact that whenever Google releases new coverage, all panoramas that had already been there get broken as their IDs change. While it is often a good thing, as it results in an effortless update to Gen 4 coverage, beautiful locations aren’t exactly meant to be the selling point of An Easy World. Each round is handpicked to display very specific clues, which may no longer be there in new panoramas. Regions with frequent coverage updates may sometimes have locations that don’t match their hints. My plan is to deal with it by doing manual checkups on all broken locations every now and then, and deciding for each one whether to update it or revert it to its old state. It is tedious work though given that I haven’t even released the map to the public yet. So while I focus on adding new countries, pano fixes will be fairly rare. If a country says “Out of date” on the progress map, it doesn’t necessarily mean it has a lot of broken panoramas, but that there have been PlonkIt updates to the country’s guide since. Here I have again decided that it makes more sense to only start updating current countries once I add all the new ones to the database to avoid repeated work.
